My first year of college is now officially complete! Wow, it feels like I was waving goodbye to my family just a minute ago. I have experienced so many challenges, triumphs, and blessings over the course of the year, it is hard to fathom what the next three years will bring. I have met so many wonderful people and built relationships with them and now I can’t imagine living without them in my life. I am excited to see what the summer and my following sophomore year at Denison will hold.
“And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
-Nehemiah 8:10b
Bring on finals week!
Today.
Shadows mean sunlight, Volkswagen vans, people who love places, and the sun and trees of Denison.
Like many college students nearing the end of a semester/quarter, I can definitely feel the pressure and stress of academics and other spheres of life. A friend that I have made in my first year of school has always been full of advice and wisdom on nearly every topic, from the red tape of our university to roommates, to faith. In her room, there is a piece of paper taped to the wall right above her bed. It reads: GOD IS MIGHTIER THAN… Written with various pens and pencils are things that have come to her mind throughout the year. Thinking on it, this seems like a perspective that I have been lacking lately. I often will dive into my stress and wallow in it, rather than focusing on what is way more powerful (and important!) for me and my life. If I may make a slight alteration, my list will be called “God’s LOVE is mightier than…”
- The housing lottery and all its drama
- Finals
- Summer job searching
- Personal relationship issues
- Uncertainty about the future
- Worries about choosing a major
- Anxiety about the future of Denison’s Christian Community, which is just getting its bearings.
I am sure I could add many more things to this list…but it has been such a stress reliever to think on these things and watch them fall away before the awesome power and love of the Lord!
“I will cause Your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore nations will praise You forever and ever.” -Psalm 45:17

I have a tummy full of delicious food.
I have a heart full of joy and happiness.
I have a rested and relaxed mind.
I have a peaceful soul.
God is good and faithful, always.

Learning how to relax and have fun is a lot easier with headphones that make me feel like a fighter pilot and listening to Ella Fitzgerald.
